Averta Standard version

Bringing together features from early European grotesques and American gothics, Kostas Bartokas’ Averta (Greek: ‘αβέρτα’ – to act or speak openly, bluntly or without moderation, without hiding) is a new geometric sans serif family with a simplistic, yet appealing, personality. The purely geometric rounds, open apertures, and its low contrast strokes manage to express an unmoderated, straightforward tone resulting in a modernist, neutral and friendly typeface. Averta is intended for use in a variety of media. The central styles (Light through Bold) are drawn to perform at text sizes, while the extremes are spaced tighter to form more coherent headlines. The dynamism of the true italics adds a complementary touch to the whole family and provides extra versatility, making Averta an excellent tool for a range of uses, from signage to branding and editorial design.

To enhance its adaptability, the typeface includes narrow and condensed widths, ensuring better spacing for tight headlines and compact layouts without distorting letterforms. Averta is also available as a variable font, making it easy to adjust weight and width dynamically within a single file. This feature allows designers greater flexibility while reducing file sizes and improving web performance.

Designed for global use, Averta supports more than 400 languages, including Latin, Greek, Vietnamese, and Cyrillic scripts. It also includes localized letterforms for Bulgarian, Macedonian, Russian, and Serbian to ensure precise typographic representation. Its Cyrillic design was recognized at the 2017 Granshan Awards, earning third place for its thoughtful execution.

In addition to its extensive language support, Averta offers small caps and multiple figure sets, including proportional and tabular options for both old-style and lining numerals. These features make it a strong choice for branding, editorial layouts, and user interfaces where typographic flexibility is essential. Whether used for signage, visual identities, or digital applications, Averta provides a balance of clarity, warmth, and versatility that suits a wide range of design needs.
