ABOUT CALTROP
Caltrop Display is an experimental display font inspired by blackletters and fantasy worlds. Attempting to break free from established blackletter styles while keeping its bold and aggressive nature, perfect for heavy metal, strong beer and occult institutions.
While designing a crest for his Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Lennart Breel created some custom lettering. After struggling to settle on the text, he realised he had accidentally drawn almost a complete alphabet—so he decided to finish it.

Lennart is a graphic and type designer from the Netherlands. He specialises in branding and typography, often drawing inspiration from disciplines like hand lettering, illustration, 3D modelling, photography and woodwork. Lennart began collaborating with TDF in 2012.
