RIP Ten Dollar Fonts: 2012 - 2015
After 9 months hard work, a few sleepless nights, 1726 emails and hundreds of litres of coffee; we are super proud to announce some exciting changes to TDF. Among the changes, TDF (formally Ten Dollar Fonts) has been given a new name, a total rebrand and a new website.
Although not an easy decision to make, we felt that our name change to The Designers Foundry was a necessary step as it better reflects our core values as individual TDF members. The Designers Foundry (TDF) has evolved from a single display font being sold from a Tumblr blog in 2012 into a global team of type designers who all share the same goal of building a refined resource of great fonts that accessible and affordable for all.
A new name required new branding, so we enlisted the help of TDF designers Wade Jeffree – a talented designer who formally worked at Sagmeister & Walsh and is responsible for Hardy typeface. Simplicity was the key and Wade did an amazing job of producing a brand that could work across all areas with our diverse font collection.
One of our most noticeable new features is Averta, our new TDF 'house brand' typeface. We worked closely with TDF designer Kostas Bartsokas in the development of the typeface. It features 8 weights and true italics. Averta is PACKED with OpenType features and supports Extended Latin scripts + Greek.
With the help of Georgy Malanichev, we have also totally redesigned and rebuilt our website. Every element has been recreated to be on brand. The most exciting part of the redesign is our all new OpenType font tester custom built by our good friend Quinn Keaveney.
To celebrate our launch we have created a Sampler. The sample includes 30 pages collated with a custom-made plastic band between two hand screen printed plastic covers. The cover of the booklet features our logo in a black foil, all pages are 270gsm card supplied by our friends at B&F Papers. The cards are loose once the band is removed so you can pin them on your wall, sit them on your desk, put them on the fridge or give them to a friend. It also helps us add new fonts without having to reprint full books. Each sampler comes wrapped in custom printed tissue paper and protected by a chrome bubble envelope.
Today also sees the launch of a number of new fonts and updates to existing fonts in our collection.
Stay tuned to our Social media for more exciting new fonts, products and giveaways coming in the following weeks!
